Two Charged with Murder and Robbery in Maggotty Supermarket Heist
MAGGOTTY, St. Elizabeth — Police have charged two men in connection with the October 19 supermarket robbery in Maggotty, during which 62-year-old businessman Aggrey Atkinson was shot and killed.
The accused, 30-year-old Ramanno Smile, alias “Smile” or “Little Smile,” an electrician, and 35-year-old Shawn Reid, alias “Sogie,” both from Knockpatrick, Manchester, face multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy, aggravated robbery, illegal firearm use, possession of prohibited weapons, and unauthorized ammunition possession.
Superintendent Coleridge Minto revealed that the suspects allegedly entered the supermarket posing as customers. One brandished a firearm and leapt over the counter to rob the establishment of money, phone cards, and cigarettes, while the other acted as a lookout. Atkinson was fatally shot during the robbery.
The suspects fled in a waiting car, and police have launched a manhunt for two additional individuals believed to be involved.
Minto emphasized the police’s determination to bring all responsible parties to justice, urging the community to assist with information about the remaining suspects.
